***4 "Bittersweet" stars from me***Well, i picked up this book because of the blurb... I adore friends to lovers book... I'm such a sucker for those kind of romances!!!But i have to admit that until the 35% of the book i wasn't hot nor cold about what i was reading...I honestly didn't know how i was feeling about that... It was seems just okay...And even when i was thinking to stop reading, my inner shelf wasn't letting me stop...I think that this was fault of Shane's mystery aura!!!And thank God, that i didn't stop!!! It turned out soooo good!!!Really guys!!! The development of the story was so unexpectent and very adventurous after all...And now, I'm ready to dive immediately to the next book!!!Well, Megan and Shane were very good friends for such a long time... but Megan was secretly in love with Shane all those years!!!But Shane didn't sem to share the sentiment...So, when Shane asks Megan to go live with her for a while, Megan's world turns upside down...Not only she had to hide her own feelings, but she had also Shane to rub in her face his girlfriend all the fuckin' time and that is hurting poor Megan...But she is determined to not let all those things to bother her... and to continue with her life. But some time after, in a night everything are shifting between them and they are crossing the thin line of being just friends..."Shane is what I had been looking for. I was falling hard for him, harder than I did before. When I thought of the future, he was it.Shane and Megan are an item for a some time now and they are so good and happy together. But Megan is ignoring the signs...And one day, everything twisted in a very ugly way.Shane wasn't who Megan think he was...He had so many secrets and he had telling her so many lies...Now, she is forced to walk in a broken road that leads only to pain..."I feel that there is something he’s not telling me, some sort of mystery that he’s either hiding or something he is ashamed of. There have been calls late at night or emergencies at the shop that he had to deal with right away. Maybe it’s my paranoia, maybe it’s something more. I don’t know."Why Shane was fooling her and her family???Wasn't his affection for her real???How could he played with her heart like that???And then, just like that everything are changing for once again...They are too many sides in this story...So what will happen with our two heroes???Will they manage to put the broken pieces of their story together???"“It wasn’t supposed to end up like this.” “What the hell are you talking about?” I demanded... All that time, emotion, pleasure; it had all been a lie. I felt my heart breaking like glass, showering down like confetti. I was devastated and used.“I didn‘t mean to hurt you.” he said quietly, finally looking me in my eyes. It hurt too much to look at him anymore. I turned away.“Well, it‘s too fucking late for that. I thought you were feeling the same. But I guess that was all part of the act too,” I whispered."Well, i honestly didn't know how i was feeling about Shane...But as all the troubled characters on books, i took him under my protection!!! What can i say??? I have a soft spot for those kind of guys!!!The truth is that from the first moment, i was guessing the most things that he was up to, the signs were there, even though Megs was trying to ignore them... I just didn't understand the reasons why he did what he was doing. But then i did and i forgave him!!!He had a mystery wrapped around him and that was fascinating for me...I can't tell you more about him, but he was in the middle of a messed up situation..."“People have gotten hurt because of me... I don’t want to be responsible for your death too.” Megan was a simple girl with a simple daily routine...As i told you, she was in love with Shane for forever and as much as she was trying she couldn't get him out of her system...But when her wish came finally true, her pretty world shattered and it left her with a broken heart...I felt so sorry for her... In her ignorance she got caught in an unbelievable adventure... but i can't tell you more!!! Sorry!!!"Questions floated in my head, questions I didn’t dare voice. Had everything been a lie? Our nights together, was that all part of the act? How could he do this to me? To my family? My heart felt broken, destroyed."As i told you above, unexpectendly i liked this book very much...There were more than just the romance part... After the half of the book the story got in another level that made me feel antsy... and kept my interest in very high levels!!!And now, i can't wait to find more about those two...I want them to get out of this broken road and to find a road full of happiness, because they deserve it!!!***ARC generously provided via NetGalley for the exchange of an honest review***

Good thing it was free via Kindle. Does anyone proofread or edit books anymore?!? There is no reason for there to be so many grammatical errors in a published work. The ending needed more.

Did I hate it? No. I did however feel like it took forever for the real story to get started. The author put a lot of details in the book that took the story nowhere. For instance, the lead character walked her dog a million times, and the author would describe the walk or how the character would let the dog outside. It was filler and unnecessary. By the time the story ended I felt like there should have been more, so perhaps there will be a sequel? The book had a bit of mystery and suspense to it, which I did appreciate. Having said that, this is not a smut novel, and there is only one sex scene which isn't very descriptive. Would I call it a romance novel? Not so much, it is more of a suspense with a little love story thrown in. If there is indeed a second book written, I will read it as I need to know what happens next...

** Josie's 3.5 Star Review ** The Broken Road is about Megan and Shane. Megan has been in love with Shane for years. She has been engaged in the past but she was not able to truly give herself and her heart over to him because of her feelings for Shane. Regardless of her true feelings for Shane they have always been close friends. Megan has had to deal with seeing him with numerous women, but lately since Shane has been dating Allison their friendship has become strained. That is until Shane shows up on her door step with a favor to ask of her. Shane has been sharing an apartment with his friend Ben but Ben has accepted a job in Baltimore and they have to give up the apartment. Megan and Shane agree to share her apartment until Shane can find a place of his own to live. This is where I am left baffled. Why would you agree to let the man you are in love with move in knowing you are going to have to deal with his current relationship with his girlfriend (NOPE NOT ME, MOVE IN WITH HER). She seriously was a glutton for punishment. After a while of living together and a lot awkwardness, Megan decides she needs to put Shane out of her heart and mind and the only way to do that is to start dating. In steps Dr. Alex Collins. He is gorgeous and stirs something deep within Megan. The two slowly start to get to know one another and embark on a relationship. Now, here is where I start to have issue with Shane. Shane has totally neglected Megan’s feelings for him by throwing Allison in her face constantly. Shane would disappear to spend weekends with Allison, even right after the apartment he shares with Megan is broken into. The minute he sees Megan’s feelings for him are changing, he starts to hang around more and becomes needy. Shane makes sure that Alex is not around for long by causing some issues. As far as Shane is concerned, Megan is his girl, Alex just does not get it. Watching Megan almost move on with another guy, gave Shane the right push to finally reveal his true feelings for Megan.Megan ex-finance, Tommy a FBI agent shows up out of the blue and reveals some startling secrets about Shane. Shane has been involved with some shady things. Shane explains to Megan, that it was his past and he no longer has any part of that life. Megan accepts Shane’s past and is willing to move forward. The problem is, Shane’s past WILL NOT LET him go. Shane’s past comes crashing in and Shane has no choice but to become the person he left behind. When danger starts threatening her family, friends and her safety, Megan becomes a strong and fierce woman who will do anything to protect her love ones. When the truth is revealed, Megan’s life begins to spiral out of control. This book tends to drag at certain parts of the story and I found myself skimming through pages. About 50% into the story things start to pick up and I started to find myself get on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There is danger, suspense and betrayal. I was so confused that I did not know who to trust, who was a good guy or a bad guy. I loved the chemistry between Megan and Shane, and despite his betrayal, Megan never denied her love for him. The only question that remained was can she truly trust Shane. Has her love for Shane blinded her from the truth? I will tell you that despite the fact that I found myself skimming early on, this book turned out to be a CRAZY read towards the last 50%. I was all over the place, and the ending was like I KNEW IT, I JUST KNEW IT!!!I would recommend you stop here if you haven’t read this one because my next review will have spoilers

The Broken Road is a riveting romantic suspense novel that follows the complicated friends to lovers relationship of Megan and Shane.Author Melissa Huie weaves a multi-layered tale of friendship, unrequited love, drama, suspense, secrets, passion, and danger that takes the reader on one hell of a wild ride.Megan has secretly been in love with her childhood friend Shane for years, but it was an unrequited love. When Shane shows up at Megan's door needing a place to live, fate has a way of changing their relationship from friendship to lovers, only to send their fledgling happiness and lives spiraling out of control when Shane's secretive past rises to the surface. With danger lurking around the corner, Megan and Shane are forced to make hard choices that will change their lives forever. The Broken Road is a compelling tale that has a great mixture of steamy romance, drama, suspense, and intriguing twists and turns that are cleverly interwoven throughout the story. It is the kind of story that keeps the reader sitting on the edge of their seats and wondering what will happen next to Megan and Shane. While Megan is a strong girl that you can't help but like; Shane is the one who keeps the reader guessing, and just when you think you have him figured out, he turns around and isn't the person you expected him to be. And then when you add in the element of danger to Megan and Shane's story, the author takes their relationship to another level ... but alas, she teases the reader with a cliffhanger ending that leaves the reader wanting more. Megan and Shane's complicated story continues in Broken Promises, the second book in the series. The Broken Road is the first book in The Broken Road Series.Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Chick Lit Plus Blog Tours.http://jerseygirlbookreviews.blogspot...

"No matter how much time passed, Shane always made my heart jump whenever he came near me."I'm a sucker for a friend-to-lover romance, but add in sexiness, suspense, thrills, and swoons, I'm a goner!Megan and Shane have been friends for many years, but Megan has always wanted more. Even when she was with someone else, she couldn't get Shane off the brain."I didn't want to think anymore, I wanted to feel. And by God, I wanted to feel him."Oh my gee! The moment that they finally get together (see excerpt above) was sooooo good! I might have clapped and squealed. Might;)Like I said, I'm a huge fan of friends becoming more than that. But this book had so much more depth than just a love story. There were layers of friendships, family, past love, new love, danger, uncertainty, and lots of fast paced action tht kept me reading."I just can't deal with the possibility of you getting hurt.""Shane. You just came into my life. I don't want to lose you."There were parts in this book where I was left shocked and surprised! There were moments that I wanted to reach in a smack Shane for being'll just have to read for yourself because it's a doozy!I liked the character of Megan. She was naive in some aspects, but strong as steel in the majority. She would fight to ends of the earth for her family, friends, and especially Shane. No matter how much she was being pushed away, she pulled back just as hard."I want everything to get back to normal as soon as possible.""There is no such thing as normal now, Megs. Your life has changed for the better and the worse."I read this book within a few hours because I couldn't put it down! Each chapter takes you more and more into their world, and boy it's a ride! Can't wait to dive into book 2 because this ending was.....

I liked this book. There were a number of things about this book that made it compelling and fun to read. I thought the characters were pretty well rounded. That being said, just because a character is well developed, does not mean you have to like them. I never felt close to the main character in this book, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the read either. I find that if the author can keep you reading a book even if the main character is not one you like, it is a sign that they have a measure of talent beyond the ordinary. This author has written a promising novel that in my opinion, is really good the way it is, but with a little work, could have earned five stars. There is not a terrible amount of things I would change about this book, but I would have liked it more if the main character had cared more about others. At many points, she comes across as selfish. There are a few overlooked editing issues, but I didn't find them too distracting. What I did like about this book very much, was that the main character is faced with choices, and as the reader, you feel you are part of her decisions. This author was very successful in creating drama and tension and making the reader feel something. At times during reading this book you want to slap the main character, at times you want to hug her. Either way, the author gives you a reason to feel something, which is important to me when I read. I would recommend this book to others who are looking for an interesting book about life, love and choices. This is an author to keep your eye on.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the second chapter. Megan and Shane, wow; what a story, it had action, suspense, sadness, and joy. Even though I thought that Alex the Vet Doctor was going to be the one for Megan, since Shane was not stepping up, he was truly a dog. Married man, Really, come on. Shane, was a cutie putie, he finally admit that he liked very much Megan. But the terror of things that were evolving between him and the circumstances of Drug, robbery, hostage and murder my god. Oh I love her mom, she had so much courage to break anyone in half for the love of her daughter. Tommy, what a cool FBI, I really thought he was going to stay with Kate aka Allison. But I guess he had feelings for Megan, but it was just more security to be near her. At the end of this book had putting out questions of (What, When, How, Why). But overall a very good book. Thank you Melissa Huie. :o)

Great book. I started it thinking i wouldn't like it. But as they say you should never judge a book by its cover. I started reading it and then found myself not being able to put it down there are only two other authors who have done this to me where they have made it feel like you were standing right there with the characters. I even found my self sobbing on one of the saddest parts of the book. This book shows you that family very important no matter if it is blood or not. Now i am going to sit here patiently and wait for the second book to come out. Just from what I read so far on the teaser it is going to be just as good.

Enjoyed reading this book. It could have used a more thorough job of editing as there were many sentences missing words but all in all not bad for a freebie...I also was disappointed in the abrupt ending....I did love the cover!

When I first picked The Broken Road up, I was so excited. I really enjoy these unrequited love books. I don't know why ... I just do. Anyhow ... so very excited. But then I started having issues with the book. While I was enjoying it, there were just these little things that kept bugging me for some reason. I don't know if I just had a stick up my ass or what but it was not going well. Luckily, it picked back up and I ended up enjoying it. Well, let's get down to the nitty gritty!I guess one of the first things that irritated the hell out of me was how EVERYONE was one of Megan's friends. There were close to 7800 characters in this book and all of them were a close friend of hers. Maybe that was an slight exaggeration but hopefully you get my point. After a while, I was making bets with myself as to whether the next new character in the book would be a friend of Megan's. Unfortunately, I always lost. It was just irritating for some reason. No clue as to why. Throughout the book, it felt like some of the scenes were kind of glossed over ... you know how when you want the scene or conversation to be explored more, maybe some more details given but then it just ends and you feel like you're missing out on something? Yeah, I had that feeling a few times with The Broken Road. And this could very well just be me since I'm a greedy reader and I want every molecule of information that the author is willing to give plus all of their notes that they jotted down while writing the book. Holy crap ... I guess that makes me like Cookie Monster. But with books. Wow. By the time I was about 60% through the book, I just couldn't put it down. Things started happening really quickly and I couldn't pull myself away from reading. I was more than a little disappointed that the book ended in a cliffhanger but since the 2nd book is already out, I was excited and immediately purchased it. I'm hoping to get to be able to read it soon because the ending of The Broken Road was such a shock that I just need to know what happens next. I'm excited to see what Melissa Huie comes up with in the future because she definitely created some characters that I won't soon forget and I'm hoping that all of her books have that same feel to them. * I received this novel in exchange for an honest review *Check out more of my reviews at Little Miss Bookmark!

I found this book to start out pretty stereotypical, girl engaged with guy, decided it wasn’t meant to be and then admits her heart had always belonged to her friend. Then the story takes a turn to everything in life that could go wrong goes wrong and there is plenty of suspicion but not real answers. I found the beginning of this book to drag and rather boring then instantly like flipping a switch all of the action began to happen. I personally would have liked to have seen a more balanced story, but then that is my personal taste. Megan breaks up her engagement with Tommy because his dreams of being in the FBI are more important than she is, and she isn’t willing to leave her family and go that far away. She sets herself up in an apartment, adopts a dog and works her days away. Shane has been her friend for a long time and after letting him see her jealousy once he figures out she might have deeper feelings for him than friendship. After a few years and the death of her father, their friendship evens out and the awkwardness is gone, until he wants to move in with her because he needs a place to stay. She thinks this will be a test on her will power, living with him, seeing him date other girls, but he is her friend. What else is she supposed to do but help him so she agrees. They do finally get together but strange things begin to happen. Tommy reappears and he doesn’t want Megan, he wants to warn her about how bad it will get if she doesn’t make some changes now. The author did a great job at developing her characters well enough that I don’t know who to believe in this story. Tommy could be right, Shane could be right, both could be misunderstood. What I do know is the latest development leaves Megan in some pretty harsh situations and a huge mess to clean up. With all of this drama and suspense going, the ending was even more explosive, leaving the safety and lives of those we have grown to care about up in the air. Needless to say the last sentence in book one gave me chills. I ready to see how this ends for Megan. I said earlier that the author wrote each character in a way that I didn’t know what to think, while that is handy in this kind of plot to keep the shroud of doubt going, it also limits my ability to really invest in the characters and feel for their emotions. I am hoping the next book will allow the characters to open up more and allow us to really understand them. *Copy provided for review*Reviewed by Tbird for Crystal's Many Reviewers

The Broken Road by Melissa Huie is 2012 Melissa Huie publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Megan has been in love with Shane for years. So much so, she has never been able to really commit her whole heart to anyone else. When Shane shows up at her door with a hard luck story claiming he needs a place to live for awhile the only question for Megan is whether or not her heart can stand being in the same abode as Shane and not suffer immeasurable heartache. However, this becomes the least of her worries when it turns out Shane is not the guy she thought he was.Poor Megan. If it weren't for bad luck... well you know the saying. She tries so hard to put Shane out of her mind, but her heart refuses to let go. When one thing leads to another and she finally has the chance to be with Shane the way she wants to be, her former fiance shows up out of the blue and has some really disturbing information about Shane. The problems Shane had with drugs and dealing a while back was something Megan was aware of, but she also thought he had put all that behind him. Now it looks like not only was he up to his old tricks, he was hanging out with the “big boys” now. If Tommy is right about Shane, Megan could end up being dragged down by Shane's lifestyle or arrested herself... or she could wind up in serious danger. I really liked Megan . She is a normal person that we can all relate to. She doesn't appear to have the best luck with men, but she doesn't take their crap. She is also a good person, a loyal person, and is stronger than she knows. With her life spiraling out of control she pulls herself together to try and save her man .While this is a romantic suspense novel, it could also work as a crime novel, especially towards the second half when we aren't sure who to believe or what to believe. There are some genuinely bad guys in this one. The relationship Megan has with Shane is heart stopping. Despite the way things appear, Megan still loves him and it seems that no matter what happens he is and always will be the love of her life. But, is he a good guy or a bad guy or just someone in the wrong place at the wrong time? Well, buckle up readers, this is one wild and crazy ride! This one is 4 stars

Megan Connor has had a crush on her long time good friend Shane for years. She had tried to tell herself they would always only be friends and had even gotten engaged to someone else for a while. When that didn't work out Megan's life basically became work and home by herself until one night Shane shows up asking for a place to say. As soon as Shane moves in the secrets begin to pile up between the two leading Megan to question if she will ever know the truth. For the most part I actually completely enjoyed The Broken Road. There was just a little something that I felt was missing while I was reading that I wasn't quite putting my finger on for the most part. I think though when done it was probably just a matter of some things being left unsaid for a while that you later learn in the story. I did think the author did a great job with adding so much detail to a somewhat short read. A great build up with Shane and Megan to give the relationship time to develop that may seem a little slow to some but then you're in for a ton of suspense with some twists and turns along the way with an action packed ending. After the bit of a cliffhanger ending with this one I'd definitely pick up another in the series. Overall, nice bad boy romance with action and suspense in the mix. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the writing style. It wasnt what i expected, it was so much more.Megan, was actually a pretty good lead female and for me that says a lot because its rare I like any female at all.Shane, his was the twist and turn for sure. Just when you think you have him figured out, he isnt what you expect. I kinda fell in love with him. I just wish there was more of him, as he is gone a lot. hopefully in book 2The side characters are written well. I wouldnt mind getting Kyles story...I see something there that may need to be told. The only thing that bothers me is Alex is there, and then hes gone and there isnt much background to that. I would have liked to see him at least try and plead his case. There were a few grammar errors but it wasnt anything that distracted me from the story.on the whole, it was a really good story and not the fluff of many loves stories out there. There is action, drama and some great sex and im really looking forward to seeing where Shane and Magan's relationship leads to from here.I would definitely recommend this book.

**ARC provided by publisher for honest review***Holy Cow the twists and turns this takes! Megan is the girl we can all relate to the one that has her forever crush, who just never pans out to be mister right. So she decides to give up and find herself with mister wrong (again) then her life takes the turn we would all love and she realizes her crush is rushing on her. It is an easy transition because our beloved bad boy is already a favorite with in the family and friend circles, until BOOM not everything is what it seems. I am having a hard time without giving the rest away, but I can tell you, if you one click this you will NOT be disappointed. It has everything from love, romance, angst, loyalty, family, murder, bad guys, good guys all in a nice yummy package that will make you page turn until you cry. WONDERFUL read!

She wants the one person she can't have. She's been in love with Shane forever and not wanting to ruin it she keeps quite. Shane is the bad boy every girls wants. Having is own fair share of ups and downs but seems to have turned his life around after getting into some trouble. Finally things seem to be going good for them and then your hit with an WTF! All I can say is I need book 2 ASAP!All in all I give this book 5 starts! Great job Melissa!

When I saw this book on the Kindle bestsellers page, I chose it because it looked like an entertaining, quick read. It was those things, but it had a bit more substance to it than I expected and I wound up enjoying it quite a bit. There are several typos in the book...small editing things that made me stumble a bit as I read, but the story was a good one and I enjoyed the characters very much. It looks like this is the first book of a series. I'm very interested to see where the author will take the story line next...and I'll be sure to read her follow up novel.

I received a review copyThe Broken Road was non-stop action from nearly the very beginning. After we get the back story on Megan and her long-time crush on friend Shane, the pace really picks up and things start to get interesting. The book is mostly focused on romance, but there sure is a lot of suspense that kept me holding my breath. I also loved how many twists and turns there was throughout the book. I was always on my toes and not sure what would be sprung on us next. If you like a good romantic suspense novel, don’t miss this one!

I could not set this book down. Melissa Huie captures both Megan and Shane exceptionally well! This book kept me on the edge of the seat and wanting more. I fell in love with the characters. Plus who doesn't love a good mafia style book. Meg and Shane are best friends with a chemistry no one can deny. Except themselves; or at least they try to deny the attraction they have for one another. I loved that this was also a long read because I devoured every page and immediately bought the second book when I finished this one. Way to go Melissa!

Decent story, fast-paced action but almost too fast-paced. Things would happen and the characters would just move on from it. I realize that during gun fights, chases, and fleeing for your life there isn't much time for dealing with emotions, but there is still a level of it to be expected when a book is written in first person. Megan came off a little flat as a character for me. There was nothing deep that made me connect with her on any level and I ended up enjoying the rest of the characters more than her. She was an open book - a very thin open book.

This is a brilliant read. I totally loved it. Although I found this a little slow to start it ended up being a heart stopping and gripping read. Not sure how many times my family looked at me as I gasped out loud reading this. Yes it's one of them kinda reads. I find it hard to review this as I don't wanna spoil it for anyone. Loved the cliffhanger at the end. Why? Cos I've got book two on kindle to jump right into lol

The story was ok, but the whole Mexican drug cartel thing was a bit much, a guy going after a dealer would have been more believable than the Cartel. Shane was kind of lovable, but not around enough for readers to fall for him and for us to want he and Megan's relationship to survive it all. Also, there were errors and mistakes with names etc that bugged me.

Good and interesting story, but poor editing. Loved the twist but I kind of figured it out ahead of the reveal. His answers to Megan were too evasive, so I knew there was something he wasn't telling. I will be awaiting the next book in the series.

Holy cliffhangerWhat happens when friends become lovers? Shane and Megan have danced around each other for years, best of friends with just an edge of flirty. Unfortunately, Shane has a past that is quickly catching up and putting everyone in danger. Can their love survive?
