The Art Broker Reviews
Jonah Devine keeps having one bad after another. The owner of Spatial Matter, an exclusive interior design company, Jonah’s life is more than out of control. On the other side of town, Cassie has had a hard life. She has to deal with her father’s death and being brutally attacked. Yet these two lives are about to be intertwined.Entrusted with being in charge of transforming the high roller room to a class of its own at the Orient Beach Casino and Resorts in Las Vegas has caused high-stress for Johan. Luckily, he seems to thrive on stress! But how much can one man take when it comes to dealing with powerful art collectors, hit men, and the Las Vegas police department. The cops think that Jonah might be guilty of solicitation of prostitutes and murder. While trying to prove his innocence, Jonah tries to figure out who Cassie is and why she has been seeking his aid. What I find heartening is that Jonah has not forgotten his roots. Coming from a difficult childhood has allowed Jonah to try to help save Cassie. He can relate to runaways and those disadvantaged because he was once a troubled kid who was given a second chance.Although Jonah is constantly on threshold of losing it all, he risks everything to rescue Cassie and his own business in the process. This book will lead you into the glamorous and gritty parts of Las Vegas. It is not dependent on certain neighborhoods either.I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The immediate opening scene involving a rather intense altercation sets the stage for this fast paced thrilling novel! Author, Brian Hamm has beautifully written the life of an art broker with a Vegas lifestyle. Passion, deceit, murder, and justice are all themes that can be found in The Art Broker. I found the story line quite fascinating and vivid in detail. Jonah Devine is the main character who is about to embark on a journey that will change his life, only not the way in which he was hoping. There are many twists and turns along the way and the ending is phenomenal! All loose ends are neatly tied together and it brings about a feeling of complete satisfaction from the reader once finished. I cannot wait to read more from this author! I would recommend this book to a more mature audience as there is adult content within the book. If you are one who loves some mystery laced with thrilling intensity, this book is for you. What an exciting ride I was taken on thanks to "The Art Broker"! Tons of twists and turns and the ending, totally not what I was expecting. Very easy read thanks to the writing style of the author, Brian Hamm. Everything flowed nicely and the characters and scenery were so detailed I felt like I was right in the middle of Las Vegas with Jonah Devine. I liked the idea that this book was based on high end art, but wish I knew more about the subject because some things were a little confusing. That being said I would still recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a fast paced thriller with and loves surprise endings. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I'm not going to lie, this book was not my favorite. I'm not really for sure why as it looks as if it would appeal to me by the summary of the book, the cover and the artwork. Personally, I think I had a hard time relating to the setting as I just couldn't get into the Vegas mood that was set by the author. I think another reason I had a hard time relating was the characters were a little out of my league, I mean, I had no idea what "Mikado print," "a Tesla" and "Giuseppe Zanotti" were. I also felt a little confused as there were so many characters and the plot switched from character to character rather quickly, sometime I felt like a character would just pop out of no where and I hadn't really built a foundation of who that character was, like Watts, Devine's sidekick, who appears towards the end of the book. I wanted to give this book a fair shake though so I read it to the end and I'm glad I did. The last half of the book I really got into and ended up really liking it. The pace picked up for me and the twist and turns of the plot kept me wanting more!I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
I won this novel in a goodreads drawing.A young art broker gets in all kinds of problems way over his head, as he attempts to wheel and deal art among the very rich people of Las Vegas. Of course, it all goes back to an incident in his childhood when his father was killed.I thought it was a bit self indulgent, with several threads that might have paid better ignored.Still, not a bad debut.
Loved, love, loved this book! The action never stopped. I thought I had it all figured out once I got to know the players but at every twist and turn I was wrong. This would make a great movie. Fast read but I had to really pay attention to who and what was taking place.“I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.”
DNF - I was having a hard time getting into this story and then some weird sexual nonsense came out of nowhere so I decided to pass. Maybe I will revisit it someday.I received a copy of this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
