Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style Reviews
More of a holistic look at the evolution of 'preppy' style and fashion from it's roots on the playing fields of upper crust English society and northeastern ivy league college and prep school campuses at the beginning of last century to the pan-cultural style it's become today than the best-selling Official Preppy Handbook by Lisa Birnbach or its less successful sequel from 2010, True Prep. While it's focus is solely the fashion aspect of preppiness, it comes off feeling more successful than True Prep maybe because it is more focused in what it tries to cover. Great photos and a quick read, this is worth your time if this world is of interest to you.
It was a very interesting and enlightening book. It was fun to find out about where some things originate from. It's definitely one of those books that you can pull facts out of to impress people with later. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it did get slightly dull at times.
I thought this book was a great overview on the prep style. I did not know a lot of the history that was gone thought and enjoyed the touch of subjects. It was short and succinct enough that I was not bored. It contained a great collection of photos also.
Good overview of the style and its history. Plenty of good looking pictures, but not a lot of structure to them. A more academical approach would have given it the status of reference book. For fans of the style and fashionistos only.
Great coffee table book for those who are still in love with this style!
Great book about great style
Quick, fun read- would make for a good coffee table book! The only thing missing was more info/images on the British style that prep is based on.
